Infrascapes in Somogy - XXXV by DimensionSeven Infrascapes in Somogy - XXXV by DimensionSeven

Are you IR fans still here? ;)

Yes, it's an older piece again. Today I was testing postprocessing of some samples of 665nm IR pics (by favour of John Houghton [link] ) in Capture NX, as I was undecided on the wavelenght of my next IR body. As for comparison, I dug this shot up from the archives which I never really had the time to fix (the hotspot distorted the tones in the middle heavily but now it's fixed with careful selecting of the WB).

While 665nm is nicer for colored vegetation (less saturation bump is required), it's broader spectral sensitivity seems to reduce sharpness with wide angles, it's got less contrast and the white-blue look is harder to achieve. There's no free lunch, as they say. I guess I'll stick to 720nm filter with the D90-IR.

I think it's all a matter of developing a technique. I like more colour in the foliage also because it's easier for me to make it white and shiny by just bumping the lightness slider in hue/sat :)
as for corner issues, make sure you compare with the same lens, because they all act different. it's a much bigger problem with my "blue" mod :/

A 720nm body you say, nice choise =D

Where are you going to convert it, lifepixel?

No, the tax fees are too high for the US, also they are now more expensive than 2 years ago. Advanced Camera Servises will do it in the UK (being inside the EU means no tax).

Ah, nice. How expensive is it up there in the UK?

I think about buying the HotMirror Filter @ MyInfrared in Indonesia, and convert the cam here in austria.

Similar/cheaper than at lifepixel (with shipping and extra tax fees included). Note sent. ;)

Wow.
This is an astonishing IR shot. It feels as though I am walking through a cotton candy world! I love how the color of the sky complements perfectly with that shade of pink. Gorgeous perspective. Well done.
